Getting close .....

BARKLY EAST TO RHODES (1 hour & 60kms on dirt road). Phone (045) 974 9004/5 and ask about road conditions and shuttle availability.  If you did not book a shuttle and now want one, there will be  time delays in Rhodes. After fuelling up follow the signs to Rhodes on the R396, right after the Barkly East Bottle Store, over a bridge, onto dirt road with cemetery on the left. You are now in the Southern Drakensburg Mountains and will pass the only live volcano left in SA at Pete Steyns farm. There is intermittent cell coverage on this route.

(Careful- do not head towards Aliwal and take any Tiffindell via New England/Wartrail turn-offs. (Even if GPS says this)

IN RHODES: There is a SHUTTLE SERVICE which offers transport from Rhodes to Tiffindell for guests or day visitors.  If you are booked for shuttling then your vehicles may be left in Rhodes at one of 2 PICK UP POINTS, Walkerbouts Inn (good Pizza's) or Rubicon (excellent burgers)-follow local signs. Uncovered parking. The shuttle is to be booked with the resort at least a week before your arrival date. Good cell coverage. Tel: (045) 974 9004/5

FROM RHODES TO TIFFINDELL: (1hour and 22kms). This is a dirt road up the steep Carlisleshoek pass, 4th highest pass in SA, and quite an adventure. Good in summer (unless big rainstorms) but it may be icy or covered in snow in winter (that's what you're here for). Access is possible in a high clearance 2x4 in good road conditions only. It is recommended that you always phone the resort(045) 974 9004 to confirm current road conditions as these can change rapidly (there is intermittent cell coverage on this route).

WELL YOU MADE IT! WELL DONE! LOTS MORE ADVENTURES TO COME.
