SA Children Ski Champs

A lot of excitement and action took place high up in the mountains of South Africa this weekend.
South Africa’s skiing families arrived at Tiffindell on Saturday and Sunday to contest the SA National Children’s Ski Championships and the SA Masters Champs 2017. Tiffindell’s Ski Village enjoyed 2 days of fun and competition -the prize being the SA Titles on the line for first boy or girl to ski through the gates in each age group.
The Children, from U 10 to U16 age groups, were placed on the podium with a big smile and a National Title from Snow Sports SA (our national snow sport federation). Their skiing skills would make many an adult envious.
The Masters Race was also well attended and the older “kids” enjoyed a far more seriously contested Slalom and Giant Slalom events.
Skiing in South Africa??
Yes! Tiffindell Ski Resort, built on the side of the highest mountain Ben McDhui, enjoys cold temperatures and snow that attracts skiers from all over South Africa and the world.
Having reliable snow at Tiffindell allowed the 2014 opening of the first ever Winter Ski Academy (WSA) in Africa. Since then the WSA has given top skiing children the opportunity to attend school classes at the resort while ski race training during recreational time. The Academy has grown and the results of the skiing exposure has reflected in a dramatic improvement of the children’s ski technique. Your kids can also join – become better skiers and get better grades!
